Best Reads for Parents

You can definitely call me an undercover researcher when it comes to helping me learn about baby’s growth and behaviours during pregnancy and post pregnancy. Since I have read a couple of books/content from webs and applications, I thought I would share my favourite resources with you. Are they parenting books? Maybe. I would definitely call them encyclopaedias for parents and you definitely do not need to pay attention to every single detail. I say this because I am one of those parents that really dislike it when books promote a formulaic method of parenting because each child is different.

Here is a list of the best reads for parents (in my opinion).

The Expectant Dad’s Handbook by Dean Beaumont

Even though the title of this book indicates that it is targeted towards dads-to-be, it has also an excellent read for mamas-to-be. In this book, you will be able to learn a lot about pregnancy, labour and birth, and life after birth. I definitely recommend this book for first time parents, since it unravels a lot of important information that will help you both throughout the wonderful journey.

The Wonder Weeks by Hetty van de Rijt and Frans Plooij

Just like how mama has “those days”, unbelievably baby has “those days” too. You will learn a lot about baby’s growth spurts for the first 20 months of their lives – everything from fussiness and calming down to new skills and behaviours that have developed. The best part is there’s a calendar provided, letting you know what weeks will be baby’s stormy period and what weeks will be baby’s happy period.

Bringing up Bébé & Bébé Day by Day by Pamela Druckerman

Bringing up Bébé is an international bestseller that teaches you how to teach your baby to be a good sleeper and eater (who does not want that?). Yet, also teaches you how to become a calm parent. Bébé Day by Day is an easy-to-read guide that offers tips and principles to help parents through their journey of parenthood. Both books do have a Parisian element in them, but they definitely put things into perspective for you.

The Bump by The Knot Inc.

Loved planning your wedding with The Knot? Then you will love this app too! This is by far one of my favourite apps that I have to check at least once a week. This is definitely a go-to app for any topic related to pregnancy, parenting, and baby. You will access to daily content, planners to help you prepare for doctor visits, real and quick answers to your questions, as well as product suggestions. Best part is it is free, to experience the best journey of your life with ease!

The Baby Owner’s Manual by Louis Borgenicht, M.D., and Joe Borgenicht, D.A.D

If you need a quick guide to the how-to’s when dealing with baby then this book is for you. Through step-by-step instructions, helpful diagrams, and answers to frequently asked questions, this book will provide you with the best advice about childcare from two top pediatricians. You really have no chance to worry about anything now!

Let me know if you have read any of these books and what you thought about them! I would also love to know if you have any book recommendations for me to add to my parenting guide.

xo,

Sarah
